Caution  - Spoilers Ahead!

When I bought this Jeep it was always going to be a Jurassic Park Jeep. But sometimes the basic Jeep needs one or two toys to truly make it just that bit different or fun.

So lets see what you need to put on your Jeep to make it a Jurassic Jeep and what else you can buy to add a bit of movie magic and fun to the drive to the supermarket/ Buckingham Palace!

Me in the Granty Outfit

Park Staff Radios

The radios used in Jurassic Park were, in fact, fakes.

Say whaaaat?

Yes foilks, they were built by the props dept and were modelled on the existing Sabre II Motorola security radios.

Real Sabres are black all over apart from the buttons, and they do not have a green light up screen. This was an affectation made by the props team under direction from Spielberg.

The movie versions are a little smaller than the real ones. The battery section is not real and is shortened to house a 9volt battery and a couple of LEDS to light up the top switch and the green screen.

They don't work at all. It's all sound design.

Mine are the real deal but not called Sabres in the UK. I have painted them screen accurate and distressed them to add some age and make them appear a little worn.

They work just fine and the clarity and range are extraordinary seeing as they are both nearly 36 years old.

They come with two rechargeable bases and are quite heavy, such was the type of battery and electronics in the late '80s.

Clothing

Dr Alan Grant Outfit

I never intended on becoming a 'cosplayer' as that's definitely not my thing. But when I take the Jeep to an event, I always - ALWAYS - get asked where Dr Grant or Nedry is?

I figured hey, what the heck, I'm up for a laugh!

The laughter soon stopped when I found out just how hard it is to track down the actual screen accurate clothing worn by Sam Neill in JP93.- and how expensive!

So here is a list of my screen accurate clothes:-

Boots.

Sam Neill wore 1992 Timberlands (of course he did)

Mine: 2014 Timberlands.

Trousers:

Sam Neill wore 1992 Ralph Lauren (of course he did) chinos with turn ups and reverse darts with logo on the rear right pocket.

Mine: 1992 Ralph Lauren Chinos. Imported from California.

Shirt.

Sam Neill wore a 1992 Ralph Lauren (of course he did) denim blue shirt - oversized.

Mine: Ralph Lauren 1992. Imported from Texas.

Note: I have never seen the EXACT shirt he wears in the movie and there is evidence suggesting the original pockets were dressed by the costume dept back in 1992 - reason unknown.

Undershirt.

Sam Neill wore a white button up undershirt, origin and brand unknown.......

Mine: Matalan. UK

Neckerchief.

Sam Neill wore a bog standard red and white patterned neckerchief - origin and brand unknown.......

Mine: Ebay, UK

Wide Brimmed Panama

Sam Neill wore  - oh for Pete's sake.....you all know where this is going........well, actually, Hollywood hatmakers Baron Hats manufactured Neill’s hat.

Made of palm leaf straw and styled like a classic Panama hat with a braided brown horsehair braid.

Mine: Borges and Scott & Hobbyland UK with a custom made band as you can't find that anywhere either.

Hat 2: Baseball Cap

Worn by the park Jeep drivers/ tour staff.

Mine: Thrown in by the previous owner - nice one.

Watch:

Sam Neill wore an original 1943 Waltham (well of course he did) US army issued field watch with sub-dial and non-metal strap.

Mine: very, very, very hard to find copy. Distressed with a drill and some boot polish to age it.

Jacket from Jurassic World Dominion:

Sam Neill wore a Carhartt 'Michigan' (well of course he bloody did)

Mine: Carhartt 'Michigan'

Compass Pouch:

Sam Neill wore an original 1944 US Army issued Green compass pouch (well of course he did)

Mine: US army Surplus.

Note: you don't see the compass but I do know from the prop dept that he actually did have an original 1940's US Infantry issued foldup compass in the pouch.

Mine: Replica 1942 US field compass.

Knife Pouch:

Sam Neill wore a knife pouch of unknown origin and brand.

Mine: Ebay & chap stick.

Foldable Shovel & Pouch: Sam Neill wore a U-DIG shovel and a now out of production leather pouch.

Mine: U-DIG shovel and a very crap pouch. I don't wear it anymore as it digs into my nublar when I drive the Jeep.

Glasses

Sam Neill wore Rayban Aviators, with green tinted lenses and gold frame...classic.

Mine are fakes bought on a rack outside Ernest Hemingways' Hotel on a Greek island.

If you have any intel on any of the original items please get in touch as this is not the exhaustive search that some people have been on to source the clothes/ items. I have a Jeep to maintain haha.
